FACT SHEET FOR TAX INCREASE
What is a tax levy?
A tax levy in a municipality is a tax that is imposed to generate revenue for that municipality.
The 69% increase is for the portion of the tax bill that is for Amberg ONLY.
The following are some examples on how much a citizen’s tax bill will go up for the Amberg portion only
A house assessed at $50,000 would have a tax increase of $100 which would breakdown to $8 per month.
A house assessed at $80,000 would have a tax increase of $160 which would breakdown to $13 per month
A house assessed at $100,000 would have a tax increase of $200 which would break down to $17 a month
The $200,000 increase in taxes would be used for our portion of the Dow Dam grant next year and the following year it would be used for the Barker Rd grant
The Dow Dam project is $1.5 mil of which the State of WI will pay $1.3 mil and the Town of Amberg will pay $200,000
The Barker Rd is a $200,000 project of which the Town of Amberg will be responsible for until State of WI reimburses us $26,000 once all the paperwork is in.
Note: Depending on timing of the projects the grants may be flip flopped.
If we let the roads go back to gravel we will lose state aid which we can’t afford to do.
